The Mayors’ Institute on City Design is a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors.
The National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) was established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government. To date, the NEA has awarded more than $4 billion to support artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities. The NEA extends its work through partnerships with state arts agencies, local leaders, other federal agencies, and the philanthropic sector.
The American Architectural Foundation
The AAF educates individuals and communities about the power of architecture to transform lives and improve the places where we live, learn, work, and play. Through outreach programs, grants, scholarships and educational resources, AAF inspires people to become thoughtful and engaged stewards of the built environment.
The United States Conference of Mayors
The USCM is the official nonpartisan organization of the nation’s 1183 U.S. cities with populations of 30,000 or more. The primary roles of the Conference of Mayors are to: promote the development of effective national urban/suburban policy; strengthen federal-city relationships; ensure that federal policy meets urban needs; provide mayors with leadership and management tools; and create a forum in which mayors can share ideas and information.
